About the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP)
The Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP) is an innovative immigration program designed to help Canadian employers address labour shortages while offering refugees and displaced individuals a chance to rebuild their lives and careers in Canada. This new pathway, set to open in the summer, connects skilled individuals with job opportunities across various industries.
Job Opportunities Through EMPP
The EMPP offers employment in a range of occupations, including:
- Healthcare: Nurse aides, personal support workers, long-term care aides.
- Engineering and IT: Software engineers, web designers, mechanical and electrical engineers and technicians.
- Education: Teachers.
- Transportation: Truck and delivery service drivers.
- Tourism and Hospitality: Hospitality workers.
Eligibility Criteria
The EMPP has expanded its eligibility to include not only refugees but also other displaced individuals who lack a durable solution and require international protection. Applicants must provide one of the following documents to prove eligibility:
- A positive Refugee Status Determination (RSD) from the UN Refugee Agency or a refugee-hosting state.
- Proof of being registered as a person of concern by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
- A refugee certificate from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine (UNRWA).
- Proof of registration or being recorded as a person of concern with UNRWA.
- Documentation of temporary protected status (subject to a case assessment by an immigration officer).
